Evaluations

Please note that insurance receipts can be divided across the number of evaluation sessions, allowing for greater flexibility when submitting claims.

Articulation

An articulation evaluation helps us better understand how your child produces speech sounds and what may be affecting their clarity. During the assessment, I use a standardized test with pictures to encourage your child to say different sounds in a variety of word positions (beginning, middle, and end of words). This helps identify patterns in their errors and guides the therapy approach.

I also collect a language sample (for example, through storytelling or talking about a personal experience). This allows me to observe how your child’s speech sounds in everyday communication and compare their production at the word level versus in full sentences.

Finally, I complete an oral-motor examination to look at the structures and movements involved in speech. This helps determine whether speech clarity may be influenced by physical factors or motor planning.

  • The evaluation typically lasts between 50 and 60 minutes, and the fee is $350.

Oral language

A comprehensive language assessment looks at all areas of your child’s communication to better understand where they may be experiencing difficulties. We evaluate language skills using both standardized tests and natural interactions, such as play and conversation, to see how your child communicates in everyday situations.

During the assessment, we explore several aspects of language, including the words your child understands (receptive vocabulary) and the words they use (expressive vocabulary), as well as their ability to understand and use different sentence structures.

We also look at how your child understands and answers different types of questions, and whether they can do so independently or with support. Because we take the time to look at multiple areas in detail, the assessment is typically completed over two sessions to ensure we obtain a clear and accurate picture of your child’s strengths and needs.

  • Please contact me as the pricing can vary depending on the age and the language profile of the child.

18-36 months

The evaluation for children between 18 months and 3 years is conducted in a warm, play-based setting. Through interactive activities, observation, and parent input, I assess your child’s understanding of language, use of gestures and words, play skills, social interaction, and early sound development.

A thorough discussion of your child’s developmental history and your concerns is also included. This comprehensive approach allows for an accurate understanding of your child’s communication skills and helps guide personalized recommendations for support at home and in everyday routines.

  • The evaluation typically lasts 75 minutes, and the fee is $395

  • Extra session $125 (In some cases, if a child has difficulty participating, an additional session may be recommended).

Oral and written language

An evaluation of written language (reading and writing) is often complex, as these skills are closely connected to a child’s overall language development. For this reason, a comprehensive assessment also includes an evaluation of oral language to better understand the source of your child’s difficulties.

Some children have age-appropriate language skills but experience challenges with decoding (reading words). Others may have underlying oral language difficulties that impact their reading and writing development. In some cases, children present with a combination of both.

A thorough evaluation helps identify the nature of your child’s challenges and allows for the development of a targeted, individualized intervention plan. The final report also includes recommendations for school to better support your child’s learning.

  • The evaluation is typically completed over three sessions, each lasting 60 to 75 minutes and the fee is 1175$
